Town of Hermon Fire Department ‘S Snowbulance

Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan says "The snowbulance and the snowmobile are our biggest tools. Both pieces of equipment are in a large trailer, ready to go, with helmets and cold-weather gear, all ready to be deployed out the back of the trailer. "

He also indicated that it is a self-contained transport toboggan, so there's room for a patient on a backboard with spine mobilization, and also room for an EMT or a paramedic to attend to the potential victim's needs during transport off a trail." Sullivan says that while the last few years haven't been that snowy, these tools will help the first responders respond quickly to many different possible situations. He added that Hermon Fire Department is very pleased with the Snowbulance.

Castlegar Search & Rescue

Injured winter backcountry users will now have a safer and smoother ride to help thanks to a new piece of equipment acquired by Castlegar Search and Rescue (CSAR).

The group has purchased a “snowbulance.”

“The snowbulance is expected to dramatically improve our ability to provide care to patients when extracting them from remote locations using snow machines,” says CSAR.

The snowbulance will be pulled by a quad with tracks. It is mounted on skis with shock absorbers, providing a smoother ride than a toboggan.

Previously, subjects were extracted using an open rescue tobogan pulled by a snowmobile.

CSAR says that set up limited the ability of the first aid attendant to monitor the patient and intervene in the event the patient deteriorated.

The snowbulance helps to protect the patient from the elements and allows the attendant to monitor the patient from a built-in seat. We are pleased with the performance of the snowbulance.

Gallatin County Search & Rescue

Snowmobiler rescued after suffering possible heart attack. Volunteers from Gallatin County Search and Rescue in West Yellowstone, Gallatin Custer National Forest, National Park Service, Hebgen Basin Rural Fire Department and a helicopter from Air Idaho responded to assist with the rescue.

Rescuers located the patient who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms. Rescuers loaded the patient into a specialized rescue snowbulance and met the helicopter at a more suitable landing site. The helicopter transported the patient to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

Captain Matt Boxmeyer stated the snowbulance is heavily used in West Yellowstone during the snowmobiling season and is a great tool for our team.

Becker County

Injured in the Becker County woods? Have no fear, the Snowbulance is here! Pulled behind a snowmobile or ATV, it has enough room for the patient and one or two attendants -- a big improvement over the rusting rescue sled that it replaces.

DETROIT LAKES — Good news for anybody who is injured in the wilds of Becker County and has to be transported out by emergency responders: The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has landed a grant from the TEAM Foundation to buy a fully-enclosed sled called the Snowbulance Deluxe.

Pulled behind a snowmobile or ATV, it has enough room for the patient and one or two attendants. With gas shock suspension and a cushioned hitch for a smooth ride, it lets the injured person be moved with as little discomfort as possible.

The fully enclosed Snowbulance will let medics work on the patient, staying warm and dry while being moved from the site of the emergency —whether it happened on a lake, private property, or deep in the remote woods. The interior heat is especially important in cases of hypothermia or during long travel time in winter temperatures.

Accidents and emergencies can happen anywhere, and the Snowbulance Deluxe, made by Equinox Industries, is “the most advanced model on the market today,” said Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander, who thanked the TEAM Foundation for its donation.
